Instagram's rules you need to know
Instagram DM automation must run on Meta's official API. As of November 2026, the main rules are:
- 24-hour window: you can reply within 24 hours of the customer's last message.
- No cold messages: you cannot start a DM with someone who has never messaged you, and you cannot send broadcasts to followers.
- Professional account: the account must be a Business or Creator account, linked to a Facebook Page.
- No passwords: a proper tool connects with Facebook login. Never give your Instagram password to an automation tool.
